Summerfield Primary School

Vision Statement

Spring term - half term 2 - Week 5 of 6 w/b 19.03.18

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to week 5 of 6

Thank you to everyone who could join us for Year 4's Good Learning Assembly on Friday. The children enjoyed sharing their knowledge, understanding and skills. Just thinking ahead for Years 1 to 5 - if you haven't yet organised your consultation appointment for next Tuesday after school (or an alternative time if not convenient) please see your child's Teacher as this catch up is really important - and appreciated - to share your child's progress and learning to date and discuss how we can make the summer term as successful as possible.
Also well done and thank you to the children in Year 6 who ran a great Science Day on Thursday and the other classes enjoyed visiting the hall and taking part in the different activities.

This week in school...

  • On Tuesday after school we are holding our Spring Disco - FS2/KS1 3.15-4.15pm and KS2 4.15-5.15pm and the Governing Board Resources Committee meeting is from 5.00pm
  • On Wednesday we have part 1 of our Healthy School Assessment
  • On Thursday after school children in Years 3, 4 and 5 have a mini tennis event at Swallow Hill Academy
  • On Friday it is our Sports Relief day and in the afternoon Year 2 are taking part in a skipping festival at Armley Leisure Centre

This is our last week of after school clubs and clubs will start again the 2nd week back in the new term.

Thank you for your continued support

Science Day - 15th March
During National Science Week, members of Y6 shared a selection of exciting science activities with children from Y2 - Y5.The children in FS and Y1 will have their opportunity in the summer term. The children were treated to such delights as Poo from the Past, learning about ancient diets and fossilisation; Allsorts Sorting using classification; Space Rockets and forces; Ooblek, an amazing material with different properties depending on how you handle it; and learnt about pollution and being active citizens in I.T. with The Plastic Tide
Children from Y6 took part in a 3 day Bikeability training programme at the beginning of the week. Despite the pouring rain on Monday, they all agreed that it was a great experience. They certainly impressed their trainers with their sensible attitudes and determination.
